Family Owned since 1965

Our Story - Don & Jean Harvey were married in 1965. As the story goes, Don didn’t have any savings, but Jean did and also owned a new Porsche. After they drove to San Francisco for their honeymoon in the Porsche, they sold the car and used the money to purchase their first apartment building: a seven unit in West Seattle. The building did well until the 1970s recession when the local economy was devastated by Boeing layoffs and the mass exodus from Seattle (“Will the last person leaving Seattle – Turn out the lights.”) After years of a terrible rental market, Don had three people show up one night to rent one of the vacant apartments! The couple also noticed that Seattle apartments were being purchased by out-of-towners who weren’t skittish following the recession. They took a chance and their next two buildings were purchased in quick succession, ultimately ending with ownership of the five buildings: Carlyle, Marwood, Goldie, Delmont and Laveda that make up Harveyland Apartments.

The second (and soon third generation) is continuing their legacy of hard work as stewards of the five properties.
